From November 30, 2025 to January 31, 2026, Eva y Linda — an exhibition at Piero Atchugarry Gallery in Miami — brings together the work of two extraordinary Uruguayan artists: Eva Olivetti and
Linda Kohen.
The show reimagines the idea of painting as a solitary act by inviting viewers into a visual conversation between two women whose lives — and art — were profoundly connected.
Two Artists, One Shared History
Born in Europe in 1924 — Eva in Berlin and
Linda Kohen in Milan — both artists came from Jewish families who fled fascism during the rise of World War II. Their exile led them to Uruguay, where their paths ultimately converged both personally and artistically.
Eva would later marry Linda’s brother, linking the two not only through family but through a shared artistic sensibility. Their long friendship transformed the act of painting from an individual pursuit into a quiet ritual of mutual support, observation, and reflection.
A Dialogue of Artistic Languages
Though deeply connected, Eva Olivetti and
Linda Kohen developed distinct visual identities. Eva’s paintings are characterized by tranquil landscapes, atmospheric light, and a contemplative stillness that evokes memory and the quiet spaces of daily life.
Linda Kohen, in contrast, frequently turns inward, exploring interior spaces, windows, objects, and intimate psychological environments. Her muted palette and poetic restraint transform domestic scenes into meditations on solitude, resilience, and emotional presence.
Together, their works form a dialogue across decades — a conversation about home, exile, belonging, and the transformative power of companionship. The exhibition allows viewers to witness how two visual languages can remain distinct while resonating deeply with one another.
Relevance for Contemporary Audiences
Eva y Linda offers more than a retrospective: it reopens a historical narrative about migration, memory, and female authorship in Latin American art.
At a moment when global conversations around displacement and identity are increasingly urgent, the stories embedded in these paintings feel newly relevant.
Miami — a city shaped by diaspora and cultural hybridity — provides an especially meaningful context for this exhibition. The works of Olivetti and
Kohen echo the lived experiences of many who have rebuilt homes and identities across borders.
